Shifting Place in the Landscape
Falkner Gallery
The exhibition presents a new series of Bullock’s artworks which allude to the strength and fragility of the world around us – the texture, air and vast spaces of the Australian landscape including its dense and wild spaces. These dynamic ideas are portrayed in the visual interplay of light and dark, in the juxtaposition of positive and negative forms. Above all, the exhibition highlights the paradigm of place, exploring the tempestuous relationship between humankind and nature, throwing into relief our desires for a resolved future.
Bullock’s practice includes painting, etching and drawing, and is predicated on a lifelong engagement with “line work” – linear energies seen or felt that run through everything, akin to a life force.
